Gap Year Opportunities
AmeriCorps – These positions are usually for one year and include a small living allowance. Once the experience is successfully completed, the participant is eligible for an education allowance towards loans or graduate school.
Orr Fellowship – A two year paid experience with a small business in the Indianapolis region.
Christian Appalachian Project – An AmeriCorps program in Eastern Kentucky.
Peace Corps – A two year international experience.
Teach for America – A two year AmeriCorps program.
City Year: One-year commitment. An AmeriCorps program where “volunteers” help in the classroom but are not teachers.
Edelweiss Hotel and Resort – This is a resort owned by the US military in Germany. Many of our military members stationed in Europe and the Middle East go to this resort while on leave. They hire college graduates for 15-month positions doing everything at the resort including janitors, wait staff, recreation staff, etc. Barrack type housing is provided and staff can travel legally in Europe on days off. Travel experience is preferred.
Teaching English in Japan – All applicants must interview in person. The interview location for Kentucky Wesleyan is Nashville.
